Dr Vedrana Veličković is Principal Lecturer in Literature at the University of Brighton. Her research interests are in contemporary Black British and post-communist/'Eastern European' writing, specifically around the politics of representation. Her monograph Eastern Europeans in Contemporary Culture: Imagining New Europe (Palgrave, 2019) is the first book about the representations of 'Eastern European' migrants in contemporary British literature and culture and provides a comprehensive study of this 'wave' of migration to the UK and Western Europe following the enlargement of the EU in the 21st century, the social and political changes after the fall of communism, and the Brexit vote. She is currently preparing an article on the politics of BrexLit for the special collection on 'Thinking the Political'. She is a co-founder of the student-staff DeCol Collective and is on the Steering Committee for Brighton’s and UK’s first and largest LGBTQIA+ literature festival, The Coast is Queer, now in its 6th year.
